David Allen Monroe

Biography

David Allen Monroe, born in Wichita, Kansas, on 4 November 1952, graduated from Wichita North High School in 1971 and attended the University of Kansas. He was a prolific inventor, holding more than fifty U.S. patents and credited with creating the cellphone camera. He was an avid collector, and he founded the San Antonio Museum of Science and Technology (SAMSAT) with his personal collection of more than 10,000 scientific and technological artifacts. He tragically passed away on 19 September 2025 as a result of a workplace accident.
